Meet the Alpha Peak TEAM

McGyver Clark

Research Team Lead

McGyver Clark is currently an undergraduate student pursuing his degree in Economics at Brigham Young University (BYU). While his academic pursuits lay in the field of economics, McGyver's true passion lies in the sport of running and the intersection of technology and athletics.

Before his collegeyears, McGyver competed as a high school track athlete at Davis High School. His dedication, discipline, and leadership contributed to two Utah Team State Championships. His experience as a track athlete instilled in him a deep love for the sport and its transformative power.

Driven by passion for youth and love for running, McGyver embarked on a coaching journey at the Roadrunner Junior Club and then onto Timpview High School. Despite being a new talent in the coaching realm, his passion, knowledge, and unwavering dedication to the athletes quickly made an impact leading Timpview High to their first Girls Team State Championship in school history.

In addition to his coaching pursuits, McGyver's affinity for technology fuels his involvement with Alpha Peak. With a keen interest in how technology can enhance athletic performance, he actively contributes to the development and innovation of our software solutions.

As an undergraduate student in Economics, McGyver brings a unique perspective to our team, leveraging his knowledge in economics with data-driven decision-making and strategies within Alpha Peak. His ability to merge his passion for economics, technology, and running provides valuable insights that contribute to the growth and success of our Alpha Peak.


John Hedengren

Academic Partner

John D. Hedengren is an esteemed professor of Chemical Engineering at Brigham Young University (BYU), renowned for his expertise in the artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimization, and unmanned arial vehicles. He not only is an expert in his field, but also has career that extends beyond academia, John is also a former NCAA Cross Country All-American and a distinguished member of the BYU Hall of Fame.

Now, as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), John is applying his extensive knowledge and passion for athletics to revolutionize the way athletes reach their full potential. Throughout years of work as a professor, consultant, business owner, researcher, and mentor he has accumulated the knowledge, skillset, and expertise that he now is able channel into his passion of running and create frontier and groundbreaking technological advancements in human performance.

John not only is a world expert in his field, but he also exemplifies passion for helping athletes reach their potential through his volunteer work as Founder and Head Coach of the Roadrunner Junior Club. John is a talent for building a culture of progression, enthusiasm and fun that instills the love of running in hundreds of kids every year. The Roadrunner team is commonly found placing highly at both statewide, regional, and national youth Track and Cross Country meets every year. 

Drawing from his own experience as a high-achieving athlete, a coach and mentor, John understands the importance of harnessing technology to optimize training, track progress, and enhance overall athletic capabilities. With his unique blend of expertise in both engineering and athletics, John is spearheading the development of all our innovative software tailored to athletes at all levels.


Isaac Hedengren

Product Engineer

Isaac Hedengren a talented product engineer at Alpha Peak. Isaac's passion for engineering, coupled with his love for running and helping others, makes him an invaluable asset to our team.

Currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Engineering at Brigham Young University (BYU), Isaac is dedicated to honing his technical skills and knowledge. He is currently an engineering research assistant with the University of Utah Intermountain Industrial Assessment Center (IAC), performing data analytics for business for optimization of energy consumption. As a student-athlete, he has also signed with BYU's top ranking Track and Cross-Country team, showcasing his exceptional talent and commitment to the sport.

Isaac's journey in athletics began during his high school years at Timpview High, where he achieved remarkable success as a distance runner. His dedication, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence propelled him to stand out among his peers. Isaac's exceptional performances not only showcased his athletic abilities but also deepened his love for running and its transformative impact on individuals.

What sets Isaac apart is his genuine love for people and his desire to help others succeed. As a testament to his selflessness, he occasionally paces local female professional runners, offering them support and guidance during their training sessions. His willingness to go the extra mile and assist others in reaching their goals reflects his exceptional character and dedication to the running community.

In his role as a product engineer at Alpha Peak, Isaac brings his technical acumen, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving skills to the forefront. He collaborates with our team to develop and enhance software solutions that empower athletes to reach their peak potential. Isaac's deep understanding of the sport of running, coupled with his engineering expertise, ensures that our products are tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of athletes.


Iain Hunter

Academic Partner, Research Division

Iain Hunter is an esteemed professor of Exercise Science and Biomechanics at Brigham Young University (BYU). With a remarkable background in athletics and a wealth of expertise in his field, Iain has become a prominent figure in the world of running.

As a former BYU Track and Cross-Country athlete, Iain has firsthand experience in competitive running and understands the demands and intricacies of endurance sports. His passion for athletics extends beyond his own achievements, as he has also made a mark in the Guinness World Records alongside his daughter for the fastest marathon for a parent-child duo (mixed).

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Iain's academic pursuits have led him to excel in the field of exercise science and biomechanics. As a professor at BYU, he imparts his knowledge and expertise to aspiring students, nurturing the next generation of sports scientists and researchers.

Publishing groundbreaking research the space of biomechanics, his lab at Brigham Young University has gained recognition as being an integral part for the development of both NCAA and professional runners. Known as “Doc” by many in the Provo Utah running community, he is an example of relentless work and contribution to the next generation of running. 

Iain's commitment to advancing the understanding of human performance is exemplified through his research collaborations with USA Track and Field. His work with elite distance runners allows him to explore the intricacies of performance optimization and develop innovative strategies to enhance athletes' capabilities.

Iains expertise in the field of Biomechanics, acumen in coaching and mentoring athletes, and personal career as a high-performing athlete gives invaluable contributions to everything we do at Alpha Peak.

Luke Vankeersblik

Academic Partner, Research Division

Luke Vankeersblick is a driven and talented Master Degree student at Brigham Young University (BYU) specializing in biomechanics and artificial intelligence. 

Luke's athletic journey started at Camarillo High School in California and continued at Cal Lutheran, where he excelled as a talented distance runner. His dedication, discipline, and relentless work ethic propelled him to achieve notable accomplishments in college athletics. Luke's experiences as a competitive runner fostered a deep love for the sport and a desire to explore the intersection of running and scientific research.

As a Masters student at BYU, Luke's focus on biomechanics and artificial intelligence reflects his commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the field of exercise science. His dedication to understanding the intricate mechanics of human movement, combined with his passion for harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, drives his pursuit of innovative research and advancements.

Luke's dedication, motivation, and problem-solving skills make him a valued asset in the academic and professional realms.
